What scholarships are available for students who are deaf/hard of hearing?

AG Bell College Scholarships

Ten awards ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 (The number and amount of awards varies from year to year.)
The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) offers several scholarships. The merit-based and award selection is highly competitive for full-time students who use listening and spoken language as the primary mode of communication pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited mainstream college or university. The selection committee is looking for strong leaders with academic excellence and great character. A limited number of scholarships are also available for those pursuing a graduate degree. Students who are pursuing a graduate degree in law or public policy are encouraged to apply for the George H. Nofer Scholarship which is specific to those fields.

Cochlear Scholarship Program 

$2000 per year up to 4 years

• Graeme Clark Scholarship: The Cochlear Graeme Clark Scholarship is a unique award open to Cochlear Nucleus Implant recipients. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or Canada. Cochlear is looking for students who uphold the Cochlear ideals of leadership, humanity, and demonstrate high academic achievement with 3.0 GPA or above, along with extracurricular activities and community involvement.
   
• Anders Tjellström Scholarship: The Cochlear Anders Tjellström Scholarship is a unique award open to Baha and Osia recipients. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or Canada. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or Canada. Cochlear is looking for students who uphold the Cochlear ideals of leadership, humanity, and demonstrate high academic achievement with 3.0 GPA or above, along with extracurricular activities and community involvement. 

Gallaudet's Merit-Based Scholarship Award

$2,000 - $20,000 per academic year - varies per award
Gallaudet University awards merit-based scholarships to students who deaf and hard of hearing and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and whose scholastic and personal achievements are exemplary. The scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in Gallaudet University by May 15th of the previous school year.

Help America Hear Scholarship

$2000 + ReSound hearing aids
Help America Hear is proud to offer a scholarship to a high school senior who is hard of hearing. One recipient will be selected and will be awarded $2,000 and will also receive 2 state-of-the art hearing aids.
Their commitment is to make sure the community we serve have as many opportunities as possible in pursuit of their college or vocational education.

J. Paris Mosely Scholarship

$1,000 
Open to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, or relatives living in their household, who use American Sign Language, maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, and demonstrate financial need.

Louise Tumarkin Zazove (LTZ) Foundation Scholarship

$3800 per year for tuition
Any citizen of the United States or who have a green card with a significant bilateral hearing loss of at least 50 dB in both ears, or who have a cochlear implant is eligible for consideration by the Foundation, regardless of age, sex, race, geographic location or ethnicity. Financial need will increase the possibility of being awarded funds along with other criteria for eligibility.

Optimist International - Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Award: $2,500
This contest offers an opportunity for children who are deaf or hard of hearing to present their thoughts in the community, gaining skills, which can only come from signing or speaking to a large audience. Applicants attending either public school or schools providing special services are eligible to enter if criteria are met. Awards come from local clubs in their districts. 

Rochester Institute of Technology 

Award renewable for up to 8 semesters
Scholarships are awarded based on your academic and/or extracurricular merit. You are automatically considered for most RIT Scholarships just by applying for admission. Freshmen and Transfer Merit-Based Scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate students. Submit a completed admission application and supporting materials by the admission priority filing date. (There are 26 possible scholarships.)

Sertoma Communicative Disorders Scholarships

$1000

• Sertoma’s Scholarship for the Hard of Hearing or Deaf - Students with clinically significant bilateral hearing loss, graduating from high school, or undergraduate students pursuing four-year college degrees in any discipline are eligible for the scholarship. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher. 
   
• Sertoma’s Communicative Disorders Scholarship - for graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in audiology or speech-language pathology from institutions in the U.S. 

TDI Communications Access Scholarship Program

$2500 or more per award
TDI’s Communications Access Scholarship Program was set up to recognize the community volunteerism work that the graduating high school seniors who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, late-deafened, or deaf-blind have contributed to. These students are recognized for their passion and capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities.

TPA Scholarship Trust for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Awards from $100 - $1000
Persons who are deaf or hard of hearing or the families of children who are deaf/hard of hearing may apply for this scholarship. A selection criterion gives special consideration to individuals demonstrating the greatest financial need. 

Able Flight Scholarships

• Full Flight Scholarship: Able Flight extends this challenge, and this opportunity, to people with disabilities, for the ability to fly is within the reach of many, and once earned, it is a skill that infuses a person with a self-confidence that enhances their own lives, and the lives of those around them.
   
• Career Training Scholarship: For those who wish to train to earn an FAA-issued Repairman Certificate (Light Sport Aircraft) with Maintenance Rating, or an FAA Dispatcher License, or  for training to qualify for a career in the use of drones for commercial purposes. At the discretion of the scholarship committee, the career training scholarship may be used for academic expenses for an aviation career. 

Google Lime Scholarship

Google's education and scholarship programs aim to inspire and help students become future leaders in computing and technology by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from entering these fields. As part of their commitment, they’ve partnered with Lime Connect, a nonprofit organization that supports students with disabilities to help work toward their academic goals in computer science, engineering, or a degree in a closely related field. Applicants must exemplify leadership and demonstrate passion for computer science and technology.

Microsoft disAbility Scholarship

$5000 a year - $20,000 total
The disAbility Scholarship at Microsoft delivers on the mission of Microsoft’s cross disability employee resource group to empower and enable people with disabilities. This scholarship enables high school students with disabilities to go to college and target a career in the technology industry. In addition, they hope to contribute to increasing the pool of persons living with a disability enrolling in higher education and, in the long term, decrease the unemployment bias for this demographic. Students must declare a major in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, law, business, or a related field (pre-law, finance, marketing). Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. 

There are more options available for students who are DHH to pursue college scholarships through scholarship databases such as, College Scholarships, College Press, and FastWeb.

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) provides services for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing that need assistance to meet the necessary requirements for a job or help finding an occupation. VR may also assist with vocational training or college. VR services may include financial assistance, employment planning, counseling, transportation, and job placement assistance. A local VR counselor will determine eligibility for services.
